Mr. Peter H. Collins is a Managing Principal and Executive Vice President of Atlantic American Partners. He, along with Mr. Moreyra, oversees the operations of this diversified investment bank, merchant bank, and manager of private equity funds. In his role at AAP, Mr. Collins has helped manage almost $1 billion in capital market transactions, including debt placements, equity placement, and mergers and acquisitions. In addition, Mr. Collins co-founded and is President of Community Reinvestment Partners, LP (“CRP”). CRP is an $85 million ($250 million when fully leveraged) Florida-based private real estate fund focused on acquiring and developing income-producing retail-oriented commercial real estate. CRP’s investors include Bank of America, Citibank, Wachovia Banks, Washington Mutual and Nationwide Insurance. CRP had its first closing in 2004 and is approximately 75% invested to date.
Prior to joining AAP in May 2002, Mr. Collins was a partner in Rock Creek Capital. Based in Jacksonville, Rock Creek was one of the Southeast’s largest private equity funds. Joining in 1997, Mr. Collins was responsible for investing the remaining committed capital of the firms’ first fund, and raising and investing capital for the firms’ second fund, Rock Creek Partners II, a $150 million fund focused on early stage companies in a broad range of industries. Most of these investments were structured as preferred stock or convertible debt.
Mr. Collins additionally served as a Manager at the Florida State Board of Administration (Florida’s $100 billion Public Pension Fund) from 1995 through 1997. Mr. Collins was a member of the search and selection committee of every outside asset manager hired during that time frame. He oversaw the selection of financial providers for the state’s deferred compensation program, and was a member of the Fund’s Asset Allocation Committee. In addition, Mr. Collins headed the $250 million State Bonding Program for the clean-up of leaking underground storage tanks during his tenure, was the person responsible for all contact between the Pension Fund and the Florida Legislature, and served as the liaison with the Florida Division of Bond Finance. Mr. Collins also served on the Florida Hurricane Catastrophe Fund Advisory Board.
From 1992 to 1995, Mr. Collins served as Chief of Staff to State Senator Charles Williams. Mr. Collins ran the successful campaigns (first and second) for Charles Williams, and upon his election to the Senate, Mr. Collins ran the legislative and constituent-oriented operations of an 8-person staff. In this capacity, Mr. Collins was regularly involved in major economic and social issues impacting Florida. In this role, as well as his other capacities, Mr. Collins has developed an extensive network from which to generate deal flow for the fund.
Mr. Collins currently serves as a director of two public companies and a director/advisor to several private companies and venture capital firms. He is also involved civically as a Board member of the following organizations: The Jim Moran Institute for Global Entrepreneurship at Florida State University; The Florida Research Consortium (Gubernatorial Appointment); The Florida State University MBA Advisory Committee; and the Palm Beach County Urban League. Additionally, Mr. Collins was recently appointed by the President of Florida State University to the search committee for the new Dean of the College of Business. Mr. Collins holds both a bachelor’s degree in Finance and an MBA in Finance from Florida State University.
