Leveraging Atlantic American’s investment banking expertise, our Merchant Banking Group invests the firm’s own capital, as well as capital raised from our principals, affiliates, and select outside investors, in corporate and real estate assets. Our principal investments are typically made directly on a transaction-by-transaction basis, without the use of dedicated, industry-specific, private equity funds.

Typically, our Merchant Banking Group partners with management teams to invest in middle market buyouts, industry consolidations and recapitalizations, as well as transactions with inherent value, such as distressed assets. Our Merchant Banking Group is particularly interested in companies that can use acquisitions to fuel their growth and drive industry consolidation. To date, we have successfully completed merchant banking transactions representing over $300 million in value.

Our investments consist of buying equity (or deeply subordinated debt securities) in privately held companies and real estate assets and working with management and operating partners to enhance the value of the assets over time. Ultimately, we, along with our investors, seek to exit investments at a later date in order to generate substantial returns.
